A NIGHT IN PARIS is an award-winning musical show that celebrates the artists of the great French songbook. After many highly successful Adelaide Fringe seasons, a Fringe Weekly Music Award in 2018 with accompanying CD, and sell-out concerts at Trinity Sessions last year, Louise Blackwell and The French Set return with a new version of A NIGHT IN PARIS for Adelaide Fringe 2021!
Louise, talented Adelaide singer is accompanied once again by her fabulous band comprising some of Adelaide’s finest musicians Mark Simeon Ferguson on piano, Julian Ferraretto on violin, John Aué on double bass and Josh Baldwin on drums. Together they perform beautiful arrangements of a finely selected, ever-evolving repertoire of songs by French artists such as Léo Ferré, Georges Brassens, Jacques Brel, Barbara, Edith Piaf, Serge Gainsbourg, Jean Constantin, Juliette Gréco, Yves Montand and even Italian jazz-pop figure Paolo Conte, so beloved by the French and adopted into Parisian culture.
Louise Blackwell spent many years living and breathing the effervescence of Parisian life. She sang in many renowned clubs of the Paris jazz scene, working with top jazz musicians and recording three albums The Blue Lou Quartet (2001), Sea is Turning (2007) and Paris Hop (2014).
Louise recreates an authentic Parisian vibe as she tells stories of this great city where she lived and which was once inhabited by these legends of the French variety cabaret scene. Whether they performed in little cabaret clubs of the Left Bank or in the grand theatres of the Right Bank such as Casino de Paris or the Olympia, Paris’s equivalent to Carnegie Hall, Louise aspires to take us there and recreate magical moments from this Parisian cultural legacy!
Louise Blackwell is one of Adelaide’s treasures … a must-see for anyone who loves good music ***** Glam Adelaide
